Abstract
This presentation will start with an introduction to the technical aspects of producing and upgrading biogas into Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). The presentation will then pivot to the innovation portfolio and areas of interest for the RNG program with an emphasis on applicability to bioengineering. Current areas of focus include: improving lignin digestibility, optimizing anaerobic digestion, utilization of carbon dioxide, and maintaining soil health.
About the Speaker
Joey Broda, P.Eng is a process engineer in the Renewable Gas program at FortisBC. Over the last six years, he has worked in all aspects of the program from operations support, business development, planning, carbon accounting and innovation.
Joey has an active role as a technical reviewer on the Natural Gas Innovation Fund (NGIF), Clean Growth Innovation Fund (CGIF), and several other gas industry research consortiums. His areas of interest are the optimization of anaerobic digestion, gas separation, carbon sequestration, and biomass pyrolysis. Through these activities, he has been involved with several research projects that either led by or in partnership with UBC(O) researchers. While not a researcher himself, Joey specializes in designing systems and building logistics and infrastructure to integrate new technology and research into the Renewable Gas program.
